What is Tuesday Night JaZZ?
Tuesday Night JaZZ is a rehearsal band with rehearsals held at the Fort Street studio 65 Fort Street (Northern Roller Mill) for two hours 7-9p.m. every week.
Where is the rehearsal?
65 Fort Street in the Shortland and Fort building (Northern Roller Mill) in the CBD close to the university and Queen Street. The studio is situated in the carpark on the sixth floor and uses the Northern Roller Mill façade. The space is not open to the public and admission is by swipe card. Please text on arrival. Arrive on time please.
What is the music?
We play and sing a selection of world jazz items, modern and traditional from George Gershwin’s Summertime to Tom Misch’s Tidal Wave and everything in between.
What is World Jazz?
World Jazz is the name given to creative music from many countries worldwide that uses a mix of improvisation, recorded sounds, and written music. Influences come from India, America, Russia, China, Africa and of course New Zealand.
Who can join?
Guitar, Bass, Drums, Piano (Rhodes), Saxophone, Trumpet and Vocals. We only have room for seven people (maybe more with a squeeze!).

What is the standard of musical skill needed?
Normally we ask for Grade eight and above, although you are welcome to join if you are enthusiastic and really want to play. Remember the only way to succeed is to practise and prepare. Learn your craft. World Jazz is a living musical style and you should learn not only about the music but also the background and history of the musicians and how to create improvised music style.

Do I need to prepare?
Yes. You should learn the music and prepare the music before the rehearsal. Important!
What does it cost?
Subscription fee $200 for ten weeks
Is there parking?
There is paid parking at 65 Fort Street on level two and three, $14 for two hours. otherwise pedestrian access only (We need to meet you on the ground floor). There are bicycle racks on Fort Street, and two minutes walk to the Link bus stop.
When do we start rehearsing?
Now. Now is the time.
How do I enrol?
You need to audition and be invited to join. We are limited to six members. Please apply using the Online Form or call directly.
